Great Movie - A Must Have September 8, 2010 Rodger 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
A great movie with stunning special effects. The Blu-ray is spectacular in sound and picture quality. A must have for Blu-ray enthusiast. Buy this and you will not be disappointed.
No good reason not to release the extended edition September 6, 2010 AHostileBanana 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I, like so many others, have already bought these movies twice. I'll spring for a blue-ray, but only once. I want the extended edition!
Best Video Quality Rings September 4, 2010 Paul Missman 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
For me, the video quality of this Blu-ray release is more than enough to make me forget that it is not an extended release.
I compared the video quality of this release to the DVD version. There is no comparison. Stunning detail, and great color, so that it draws you right into the story with the characters. The only thing that was wasted money was buying the DVD versions. And this release has 3 disks of DVD quality extra features. Six disks in all.
After actually seeing these disks, I'm glad I did not wait for the extended release.
Yes, to appreciate these, you need a high quality TV that will display the full 1080p resolution without blurring the motion.
The other thought I had was - What if the extended Bly-ray release is different from the extended DVD relase? There might be a bit of footage that was not put into the DVD extended versions that might be inserted into the Blu-ray extended releases. Or they might add a few sequences from The Hobbit into the LOTR extended Blu-ray release. If so, that might make both extended versions worth owning.
In any case, for me, the large amount of extra video quality made it worth not waiting. I'll probably purchase the extended Blu-ray versions also, but I may wait for the prices to come down.
Not the extended version. Don't buy. WAIT FOR IT. September 2, 2010 Donna S. (Heart of Texas) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
DO NOT BUY THIS BLU-RAY....WAIT FOR THE EXTENDED VERSION.
I, also, am in agreement with all the other low rated ratings. It's not a low rating on the movie, but a low rating on the underhanded manipulating of the LOTR lovers. To release this in Blu-Ray without the extended version.
I got my new LED/LCD TV 4 days ago, and of course, I had to buy a blu-ray DVD player. Yesterday, I went to Wal-mart, and just had to purchase my favorite movie of all time, The Lord of the Rings. I was totally bummed out when I realized, after watching the first disc, that this did not have the extended version in it. I paid about 70.00 for it. Had I know this wasn't the extended version, I would have never bought the darn thing, I would of waited.
Tomorrow, I'm taking this back and I hope Wal-mart doesn't give me a hard time about it. I will fight with them over this for sure if they do not take it back.
I'm like everyone else, bought the first version, then the extended version came out, had to go buy it. But they're not going to do it again to me.
Oh, needless to say the blu-ray LOTR looks fab.
FOLLOW 9/3/10 for the above review:
Went to Wal-mart today, needless to say, they would not take the DVD back. They said it's a federal copyright law that once it is opened it cannot be returned. This is for all electronics, i.e. games, dvd's, software, etc.
So, now I'm really ticked off at New Line Cinema for releasing this blu-ray without the added scenes, which cost me 69.96. They should send everyone that bought this a coupon for 75% off on the extended version.
WHAT A LOUSY RIPOFF OF THE LOTR CONSUMERS. PETER JACKSON, YOU STINK, YOU THIEF.
Once bitten twice shy September 1, 2010 Douglas Black 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
There's not a whole lot to be said that hasn't been said may times over. It's insulting to fans that companies try to nickel and dime consumers with multiple re-releases of the same product. There's no reason the standard and extended editions couldn't be on the same disk, in a branching system, with a simple option at the beginning to select which one you want to watch.
Like many others, I'll just be patient and vote with my wallet, waiting for the extended blu-ray release.
