It wasn't the worst book, but it also was not the best. There was not much action in the book as there was in the first two books. Also, the author seemed to fill in pages with a lot of Sweden's history which made it a pretty boring read. I read it because I had already read the first two books and I had to finish the series. Overall, it was an okay book to read.

What a great trilogy! I loved all three novels. It's been many years since a thriller kept me up hours after my normal bedtime, but this book did that. This book was great, but was different than the first two. First, it was not a mystery to the reader. The first hundred pages or so mostly followed the bad guys as they plotted their cover-up after after the murder of Zalachenko. We know what's happening as the protagonists work to figure things out. This worked well. This novel picked up right where the previous novel ended. Unlike the first two Stieg Larsson novels, this does not stand on its own. You need to read the The Girl Who Played With Fire first, and it's best to not let too much time elapse before starting the third book. That first hundred pages is a bit slow and confusing. In fact, throughout the whole novel, there were so many characters introduced that I had to work very hard to keep on top of them. The effort, though, is worth it. After page 100, we switch to following Salander, Blomkvist, and the police supporting them, and I was hooked. With numerous interconnected subplots, this novel drew me and and became pure fun. This has action, suspense, great characters, and maybe the best courtroom drama ever. The final hundred pages were the most riveting and fun of any of the three novels. This made up for the slow start. What a reading treat.

We are told that The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest completes the trilogy of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire. However, there are rumors that before he died author Stieg Larsson had begun work on yet another book that is being edited for publication. Millions of readers the world over are fervently hoping that this is true. The books are fantastic. Lisbeth Salander is definitely an original and intriguing character who is a brave misfit. The story opens with her critically wounded and in an intensive care unit of a hospital in Sweden. If she manages to survive, she will be arrested for multiple murders. Her friend and one time lover, Mikael Blomkvist, a journalist sets out to prove her innocence. In his quest, he uncovers a corrupt group within the government that is responsible for Salander's situation. She will need to confront this faction and the individuals who have accused and abused her. She moves from being the victim in the first two books to fighting back and taking charge in the conclusion of The Hornet's Nest. The fast moving plot twists and turns are powerful, imaginative and very compelling. The characters are complex, including the likable, the despicable, and the weird, but they are believable. Larrson's descriptions are detailed to the point of allowing the reader to step into and envision the settings. As the characters drank cup after cup of coffee, I found myself craving a latte. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest is constantly and completely enthralling in its depth and uniqueness. You won't be able to put it down even when you are making a pot of coffee, as you step into the setting and join the characters. While the books can stand alone, I would highly recommend reading the complete trilogy from the beginning. They are all just too good to miss.

For new readers do not read this book until you have read the first 2 in order - it is an ongoing story of the characters, not necessarily the story.
Delivery was very prompt, arrived within the week.

I started reading the 3rd book the day after I finished the second one. I was hoping that there would be a completely new mystery in this book, but it's a continuation of the second. Within a few pages all the progress Salander and Blomkvist made in the second book is lost and it's almost like she is back on step one. After that though, nothing, and I mean nothing (with the exception of one broken finger) goes wrong for the good guys. You expect in a thriller/mystery that the bad guys occasionally get the upper hand and the good guys need to escape or regroup or something... Not in this book. Everything works perfect for the good guys. There is also a side story with Berger that is just filler and contributes nothing to the main story.
Overall it's an OK book but it's not as good as the first two.
